Dire Don--

I don't want to be an intruder in your life at this time. I just want you to know that there are people out there who have done what you're doing, and most will be very willing to try to help in any way they can. I understand that I'm 3000 miles away and 3 hours behind you, but if I can offer any suggestions or peace of mind, I will do my best. I'm not a big Steps guy or spiritual guy, but I can tell you what has worked for me.

You have been in my thoughts since you let us in on your plan--it takes balls to expose yourself like that in an internet chat room, and I commend you for taking that First Step (the most important one, IMHO). The coolest thing for me was seeing how many others at the Forum are like us. We truly are everywhere (Deadheads and drunks/addicts)! Strength in numbers, my friend.

E-mail me at any time if you need to. Use the phone or email BEFORE you take that first drink. Establish some relationships with guys that have significant sobriety, but also with some "peers"--newcomers like yourself. It's nor going to be easy everyday, and there will be times when having somebody to talk to will help you through the tough spots.

As one of the guys (a retired judge, BTW) in my AA group says repeatedly, "Go to meetings, don't drink between meetings, and your life will get better"

Works for me.

All the best,
Tom

Hey Tom,

Thanks so much for that post. I am in total agreement that the first step is the most important and biggest one. I'm glad it sounds like something has worked quite well for you also. Whichever way works the THE WAY.

And the last thing you are is an intruder at this stage in my recovery. I 100% believe in the power of prayer and "group consiousness" to help others. I knew I was going to need that extra "help" - and as God is my judge, it worked more than i could have EVER imagined. I had so many people sending prayers and vibes from here and the other forum, the detox was an honest cakewalk. Now comes the hard part (sooner or later). For now, I am on cloud nine - and I have you and the other kind souls here to thank for it.

Peace brother - and I will certainly be in touch. I am very willing to take advice or helpful "hints"/suggestions from one who has been in my position.

Thank you again Tom

Don

Have you heard of the "pink cloud" yet? Same as cloud nine. Many cliches, catch phrases, and other recovery jargon will be revealed.

Glad to hear you're feeling good, and the vibes were felt. You had kinda fallen off the forum, and I was glad when you started posting again. Really glad you posted what you did when you did--it's so cool how much support was there for you. I don't go to the other place, but I'm sure the positive vibes were flowing big time.

Keep on truckin', bud. It's real simple--just don't drink today.

For you know that when it comes

Greets the rising shining sun"
